A project by the research programme Independence, Decolonization, Violence and War in Indonesia, 1945-1950, the Witnesses & Contemporaries project specifically focuses on collecting the experiences of those involved in the events at the time in the Netherlands, Indonesia and possibly other countries. This project aims at connecting individuals who were in Indonesia between 1945 and 1950 with the researchers involved in the programme. Sharing personal stories from the period between 1945 and 1950 with the researchers can enhance knowledge of the decolonization of Indonesia.
There are several ways to make a contribution: by sharing materials like letters, diaries, memoirs, photos and film, and also by sharing your personal experiences from the period of war and violence in Indonesia by writing a letter or being interviewed.
We invite all those concerned to send a comprehensive, detailed letter to the project relating their personal experiences. We ask you to describe the anecdotes and experiences which you deem important for the researchers to know in this letter.
With your permission, we will share this information with the researchers. In addition, the material will form a separate collection, available for future research and educational projects.
The project is being coordinated by Eveline Buchheim and Fridus Steijlen, with the assistance of Stephanie Welvaart. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call. You can reach us by phone Monday through Thursday at 020-5233892 or you can send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
